Chapter 10
Ah Wing's Story
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AN: Ok! Finally, in this chapter you'll find out who Karen is.. Maybe... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ashley?!?!?!?!" Ah Wing said, sounding super surprised.
"Hi.. I just wanted to come up and ask you if you wanna come shopping with me. Besides I only have about 2 weeks here, why don't I just spend them with fun and you?" Ashley said, quite pleased with herself that she actually kind of persuaded Ah Wing to go back to England with her. The truth was that she lied when he asked if he should go back, then he actually said he would so, she barely even said that much.
"Um... Not right now, Ashley." Ah Wing said, turning around, facing his apartment now.
"But... I wanna...." Ashley said, trying to sound innocent and begging in a way.
"I'm sorry, but no!" Ah Wing said, he saw that Ashley was standing in front of the door. He grabbed the side of the door and slammed it in Ashley's face.
Ashley stamped her feet on the green carpet of the apartment building's hall way and marched away in anger.
Yan walked near the apartment building, half scared to go up there and apologize to Ah Wing,'What if he doesn't accept my apology?' Yan walked down the street, turning away from the building, then up again, then down, then up until she caught sight of a familiar figure. 'Is that Ashley?' Yan wondered. Yan didn't want Ashley to see her here, so she hid behind a large bush. 'Ashley seems mad... Did she just go up there to see Ah Wing? I wonder if Ah Wing made her mad?' Yan thought.
It started raining, Yan lifted up her hands above her head to prevent the rain from dropping onto her head. Didn't work that well. The rain dripped onto face and it wet her top. Yan wanted to get in the building but she walked down the street to see if Ashley was out of sight. She was. Yan quickly hurried into the building. When Yan was in the building, her face was dry from the rain now but pretty soon, her eyes started glistening. 'I'm scared that Ah Wing won't tell me what happened years ago and who Karen is... And we didn't exactly break up right? If we didn't then.. What if he wants to break up with me then? I don't want that to happen.... I love him too much....' Yan thought.

In Ah Wing's apartment, he sat down his couch and backed up on there, feeling tired from stress. 'But what stress do I have? Girlfriend problems? Ashley problems? Karen problems? Why does it have to involve girls?' Ah Wing thought
DING DONG!! DING DONG!! DING DONG!!!
Ah Wing got annoyed with all the ding donging, as he walked over to the door he said,"Stop ding donging, I get it I get it.. I'm coming.. Geez." Right when he said geez the door opened and he found a teary eyed girl, the girl he knows and loves.
He started laughing. The girl frowned,"Stop laughing at me!"
"I'm- I'm sor-ry," Ah Wing said through bursts of giggles and laughter,"It's just that... Your face... hahahaha..."
"What's so funny?"
"Your face.." Ah Wing said,"Either you let the rain pour down on you or you were crying really hard."
"For your information, I was crying, the rain was pouring down on me, like really bad and I couldn't come in, I had to hide from Ashley." Yan said.
"Ok.. So what do you wanna say to me?"
"Had you expected I'd say something?"
"Uh, yes, you came up here to say something, not just to talk about your tear filled face."
"I... I.."
"You're sorry. And guess what?" Ah Wing said. Yan gave him a questioning look. "I'm sorry too." Ah Wing said looking down at their feet.
"Aw... Good!" Yan smiled, then giggled. She hugged him but he pulled away a second or two later.
"I feel like... I've been a bad boyfriend... And I haven't told you anything.."
"Sooo..... Can you tell me about Karen and your past? Like... Did it have to do with your family accident?"
Ah Wing gave a slow nod,"Um... If you're going to hear a story, go and sit down."
Yan obeyed him and sat down comfortably on the couch, for the first time in 1 week, Yan felt like her heart was drained out of the sadness and sorrow and it started filling up with love and happiness.
"Ok," Ah Wing said,"It was 9 years ago, it was Ashley and my wedding day. We were happy together so we decided to get married at an early age. My family all bought tickets to go to England just for our wedding, Ashley's parents already lived in England. Anyways, we already got married so now we had to serve my parent's tea. My cousin, Karen went downstairs in the basement of my house and lit it on fire. Then she ran upstairs, into the front yard. My family, Ashley, and I didn't know that the fire was spreading, but my brother catched a glimpse of a reddish yellowish moving thing, then he yelled fire. We all tried to get out, I got out, and so did Ashley but unfortunately my family didn't. They were trapped inside the hot fire. Ashley and I just stood there, dumbfounded, and watched as the fire burned my family to death. But a moment later, I woke up from the gaze of the fire, and quickly called the police in my cell phone."
"So.." Yan said,"Your family's death is all because of Karen?"
"Yes.." Ah Wing said sadly,"After the fire, we all foudn that my family was dead, when we looked at the burnt bits, Karen jumped out from a bush, looking very angry. She yelled at Ashley for surviving the fire. I was very mad at her for saying that and I wanted to hear everything about it, so we went to Ashley's house. Ashley called her family and told them that the wedding was postponed they didn't need to go and they can't ask any questions. After we got there, I hurried to the living room and so did Karen, she told me everything. She loved my secretly, and she was jealous that Ashley was marrying me. So she came up with a plan. She had to set fire on the house, to make Ashley die in there. She didn't think about any of our family members in that fire, only Ashley dying. Then she pointed at me and said that I was too selfish, saving only Ashley and myself and leaving my family in that fire... I got very mad at Karen but I decided to let it go, besides she was only 15, but I think she'll never learn her lesson..."
"Why?" Yan asked.
"Because.. After a few days of guilt, she came up with mental illness. She acted weird.. Really weird. Soemtiems she got mad, sometimes she was overwhelmed with excitement but most of the time she acted like a child and played with stuff in Ashley's house. Ashley and I decided to take care of her, as if she was our grown child. But I only took care of her for 2 years. I received a letter saying that I can apply for a doctor's job in Hong Kong, I figured I need more money to take care of Ashley and Karen so I accepted it. Ashley got mad because I had to leave her with Karen. We got in a fight then I decided that we should just divorce. We did, then I came to Hong Kong, I didn't get the job because I came too late, so then I became a lifeguard. I left Ashley and Karen alone for 7 years, I didn't take care of them, real mean of me right?"
"Yep..." yan said as she absorbed all of the words Ah Wing had said.
"A few days ago Ashley called me, she told me that Karen had cancer, and I had to go back to England. To wait for her surgery time to approach and to wait til it's successful. But I'll only be gone for 3 months.."
"Three months?!?!?!" Yan shouted.
"Yea... I wanna see her for the last time maybe. I mean what if she dies during the surgery? And you know, a person with mental illness and cancer at the same time, it could be very hard on her."
"I guess..... But 3 months..."
"You can live through 3 months right? I know you'll be strong.
Yan giggled, she didn't know if she can be.. But she'll do this for the sake of Ah Wing, she nodded.
Ah Wing leaned over Yan to kiss her, this time, Yan didn't do anything.
