I guess you could have called it ‘Love at first sight.’
I’ve always admired people with talent, especially singers; my brother just happens to be one of many here in Seoul, Korea. I, myself have never been born with the natural talent of singing, so I gave up the dream of becoming a singer many years ago –but my brother on the other hand was born with the natural talent –As I said before, he’s a singer. Though, no matter how many times my friends tell me how lucky I am to have a brother like Doojoon, I still feel that I’m lucky in a different way. You see, I’ve always admired a boy named Yoseob, ever since I spotted he’s preformed on M-boat. His voice was soothing, and gentle –almost like the voice of an angel from above. I cried many times during his performances, touched at all the feelings that he’s put into the song.
Little did I know that God gave me the chance to get closer to him; he’s now one of my brother’s band mates. I’ve got to admit, I may have no great voice, but I do have an awful amount of luck. Even though I never mentioned his name in my brother’s presence, he somehow found out I admired him, and even assumed that I had feelings for Yoseob. I can’t completely disagree with him, but I couldn’t agree with him either; I didn’t really know whether or not it was really love, or if it was just admiration –I mean seriously, what’s the chances of falling in love with someone you’ve never even talked to? But my brother insisted that I meet him –and the rest of his band mates—just for the sake for meeting him. So, what could I say? Meeting him wouldn’t hurt, would it?
I woke up at seven that morning, rummaging through my closet for my best set of clothes. I spent nearly two hours getting ready –making sure that my hair and make-up was perfect. You could say I was a bit nervous, considering the fact that I’m meeting with one of Korea’s most popular groups –Beast. I arrived at the front of their talent agency at approximately ten o’clock, hoping I wasn’t too early. Doojoon Oppa had told me to meet them at ten thirty –since they have a photo shoot—but I figured that it wouldn’t hurt to go in thirty minutes early. I gently opened the door to Cube Entertainment, and proceeded to the woman at the front desk. Her hair was dark brown, and she wore black framed glasses that made her look like a nerd –but I said nothing of it. She looked as if she was busy, flipping through thousands of papers, and letting out a sigh of relief when she found a duo tang. I stood there for another three minutes, watching her flip through the pages of the binder until I felt that I couldn’t wait any longer. “Excuse me,” I asked, trying to act as polite as I could. Her hands paused, and she turned her eyes up to look at me.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t notice you there. How can I help you?” She said while folding her hands together on top of the papers she was flipping just a few seconds ago. She was smiling towards me, probably trying to make me feel welcomed.
“I’m here to find Yoon Doojoon.” I answered. Her facial expression immediately changed from a polite smile into a frown.
“They’re really busy now, so if you’re a fan of theirs and wants to meet them –you’ll get to see them at the next fan-meeting.” She said while gesturing for me to leave. “You’ve got no more business here, and they won’t be seeing you. Please leave.” She quickly returned to flipping her papers in the binder, and acted as if I was never there. I cleared my throat again.
“I’m Yoon Doojoon’s little sister, Yoon SeungYeon.” I said. The woman looked up at me again, and eyed my suspiciously.
“Yoon Doojoon’s little sister? You young people really know how to lie these days. These jokes just get better and better. If you’re Yoon Doojoon’s little sister, than I’m his mother.” She laughed before getting back to work.
“No, I’m serious.” I said while pulling out my wallet. “Here’s the proof.” I took out the picture of me and my brother to show her, and her face suddenly became serious.
“Sorry Miss Yoon, this way please.” She got up from behind the desk, and led me through the hallway to a little room. “Here, you can wait in here for them.” But once I was fully in the room, she shut the door behind me and locked it shut.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked in disbelief.
“Fan girls that keep insisting that their the sister of a top idol –when their obviously not— and uses a photo shopped photo as proof that their related to their idols are to be locked up, and to be never let out again till they know they’ve done wrong.
“But I am…”
“Don’t insist on something you aren’t.” She said, ringing her keys and leaving with a smirk on her face. I sighed as I took a seat on the floor, resting my back against the wall. Maybe I didn’t have that much luck after all.
“Wait…” I mumbled as I took out my phone from my purse. “Maybe I do have some luck.” Though right after I pulled out my phone, I realized that there was no signal in the room. Great… Now I’m stuck here till she lets me out.
“Man that was tiring.” A voice mumbled. I quickly got up to my feet, and peeked out the window of the little storage room.
“Hey! Help me!” I called, hoping to get a hold of the boy walking by. Luckily, God was with me, and he turned around to see where the voice was coming from. Once he turned around, I immediately realized it was Yoseob. Confused, he scrunched up his face while examining me through the window.
“What are you doing in there?” He asked.
“The woman at the front desk out there—“
“You mean Seung Mi Noona?”
“She looks more like an Ahjumma to me.” I said plainly. “She thought I was a fan girl and locked me up in here.
“She usually isn’t that mean… The most she ever does is force you out of the agency with a broom.”
“Well, she apparently thinks I’m lying when I say I’m Yoon Doojoon’s little sister.” I replied.
“You’re hyung’s little sister?” He asked in disbelief. I nodded. Do I look that different from my brother? We are from the same parents after all, we couldn’t be that different.
“Let me get the key from Noona. I’ll let you out.” He replied. After several minutes, he returned with the key. Yoseob turned the key in the keyhole, and unlocked the door.
“Thank-you.” I said, while bowing down to him.
“Oh, no need. Sorry if I took too long… Noona refused to hand the key over to me.”
“It’s alright, as long as I’m out of there.” I said while walking out of the room.
“You said that you’re hyung’s sister, correct? Let’s go find him and the rest of the crew, shall we?” He asked, taking my hand and darting through the hallways I was led through by the evil ahjumma, and up the stairs to another room.
“Seung Yeon.” Doojoon said when seeing me and Yoseob walk into the room. His face turned white when he spotted my hands in Yoseob’s.
“So, you got a girlfriend, didn’t you?” One laughed. Yoseob quickly threw my hand off, and stuffed it into his pocket.
“Of course not!” He said while taking a seat beside my brother. For some reason, my heart sank. True, it seems almost impossible to fall in love with someone you’ve barely talked to, or know; but why does my heart sink when such words are coming out of his mouth? I took a seat on the other side of my brother, and listened as he introduced his band mates to me.
“And this is Hyun Seung.” Doojoon said, gesturing to the boy that was making fun of Yoseob just now. “So, what took you so long to get here? I thought I told you to come at ten thirty.” My brother asked, turning to look at me.
“I wasn’t late.” I stated. “I was locked up.”
“What?” Everyone but Yoseob asked in disbelief.
“Seung Mi Noona decided she was another one of the fan girls, so she locked her up.” Yoseob explained. He continued with the rest of the story, telling them how he ended up stumbling upon me, and saving me. I really wondered, was it fate that made this happen? To let me meet him in a situation like this?
“My little sister happens to be a huge fan of you.” Doojoon laughed. I sat there, immediately trying to ignore all the eyes that had turned to me. Is it that important? And why did my brother have to mention it? Does he have nothing better to do? We were sitting in the VIP room, waiting for their turn to perform –After MBLAQ. I never understood why my brother pulled me here anyways, I’m not even supposed to be backstage –I’m not a idol after all; and it wasn’t like I was performing either.
“Really?” Yoseob asked, while his face slowly became pink. What’s to be so surprised about? And what is there to blush about? I mean seriously, he has thousands of fans out there… why is he blushing when he hears about me? It had been two weeks after I had first met him –and getting locked in that stupid storage room by ‘Seung Mi Ahjumma,’-- but we never seemed to talk a lot due to his hectic schedule. “I have to go to the washroom…” He said, when finally noticing his blushing face. He quickly darted out of the door, and in the direction of the washroom nearby.
“Come on, it’s time to get ready.” The stylist said, while seating my brother in front of the mirror. “One at a time…” She said, “I’ll call you guys up one by one.”
“So… what’s up?” Kikwang asked while taking seat beside me on the couch.
“Nothing,” I replied. “I never knew being backstage would be this boring…” I mumbled. He laughed.
“So, I heard that you’re a huge fan of Yoseob.”
“Well… You guys as well…” I said, hoping to not show too much of how I felt. Throughout these two weeks, despite all the time that we spent away from each other, I still felt my heart pounding faster when I was around him; my face getting redder and redder –and a feeling that made him seem special to me.
“Don’t lie Seung Yeon.” Kikwang said. “I’m best at spotting the lies people make up.”
“But I’m not lying…” I lied. I didn’t hate the group, I just happened to like Yoseob more than the rest of them –well… my brother is a different case.
“Yes you are.” He replied plainly. “My whole family tells me lies; I learned quite well how to spot them.”
“Fine, what am I lying about?” I asked.
“You have feelings for him, don’t you?”
“Yeah right, what proof do you have?” I folded my arms, and waited for his answer –there was certainly no evidence that I had feelings for him… Or at least, I don’t there is.
“You blush around him, just he does for you.”
“No he doesn’t, now you’re the one lying.” I said.
“I’m only speaking of the truth.”
“Fine. Keep going.”
“You’re shy all around him –I’m not saying you’re not shy around me and the rest of the guys, it’s just you treat him differently.”
“Maybe that’s because he’s my idol, and he’s special to me?”
“Fans don’t treat idols the way you do. They hoard over the idol, and the first thing they ever do is get their autograph. What was the first thing you guys ever did? Hold hands.” I could hear the rest of Beast giggling –except Yoseob; he still hasn’t returned from the washroom.
“That doesn’t mean anything. He probably just thinks of me as a sister.” I mumbled, having a hard time pronouncing the word ‘sister.’
“Ah, you just admitted you had feelings for Yoseob.” He said with a smirk.
“No I didn’t! Since when?”
“Since girls like to say such things when they have feelings for someone…” I sighed.
“Fine, say what you like. I’m not going to say anything anymore.” I said while turning away.
“He likes you too.” He said.
“What?”
“I’ve known him for quite a long time –well, at least longer than you have. He’s the person that doesn’t like admitting things, and likes to keep all his feelings to himself. Did you know he asks about you like ten times a day?”
“He does?” I asked, surprised. Kikwang nodded his head.
“Though, I’m not sure whether or not he’ll ever confess, or even admit that he likes you.” He said, frowning.
“I’ve got an idea.” Doojoon said while walking towards us. True, the plan would’ve been considered kind of old, but who knows whether it’s going to work or not if you don’t try? I wasn’t sure whether I really loved him or not, I mean… It’s only been two weeks since I’ve met him –well, since we’ve talked anyways.
It was lunch, and I was waiting for Kikwang. I may have not known him as well as I did for Yoseob, but thanks to the plan, we’ve talked a lot more than we have before –sometimes even ignoring Yoseob. I haven’t talked to him for quite a long time now. But every night before I slept, I would always think of him, and tell myself: Maybe after this, you’ll be more than just friends. My brother had planned a date for me and Kikwang, telling me that Yoseob was sure to show his feelings after this –I trusted him on this, but if it failed, then Yoseob would probably only sees me as a hyung’s girlfriend afterwards. We had planned the date at Seoul’s Park –one that was famous for a couples’ date. They figured the more they pushed him, the more likely that he’d show his feelings. “Are you ready?” Kikwang asked, while looking behind the bushes to see my brother, Yoseob, and the rest of his band mates. I nodded. He took my hand, and we silently walked through the park –enjoying the sight of the other couples, and some children playing near-by. We passed by an ice-cream stand, and he gratefully bought me a cone –I chose the most expensive one. Many fan girls here and there would look at Kikwang, and recognize him. Instead of telling them to shut up, he bowed his head slightly, and smiled. I didn’t quite understand how idols did that… I mean seriously, getting screamed at, and yet you still smiled at them –this was probably one of the reasons why I wasn’t a idol. I would’ve probably pushed the fans away, and screamed back at them.
It was cool outside, and I happened to be cold –I was too lazy to grab my jacket with me before I left the house. At the sight of my arms wrapped around myself, and the sight of my goose bumps, Kikwang quickly slipped off his jacket, and placed it around me. He then wrapped his arms around me, probably trying to help me keep warm. I snuggled up against him, and then turned my eyes towards the bush of where Yoseob was. His face was pained, and he looked as if wanted to cry. I quickly turned away. I have to go through this if I want him to show his real feelings.
Walking for another half an hour, we finally stopped at a tree, and proceeded under it to rest. “This is the final step.” Kikwang whispered, hoping to not let Yoseob hear. “He didn’t respond to the ice-cream or the hug… So here’s the last step.” He whispered in my ear, what I had to do. I was a bit hesitant, but I agreed to proceed with the plan. We were to kiss each other.
“Are you sure this is going to work?” I asked him quietly. He shrugged.
“Who knows if you never try, right?” I nodded, and closed my eyes; waiting for his lips to meet mine –but it didn’t. Instead, I heard Kikwang scream “Ow.” I quickly opened my eyes to see Yoseob. He had punched Kikwang from the looks of it. He then took my hands, and ran.
Maybe Kikwang was right; maybe he did like me. Yoseob brought me to the rooftop of a building, and sat with his feet hanging over edge. “Aren’t you scared you’re going to fall down?” I asked while walking towards him, but stopping before I reached the edge.
“No. Come,” He gestured for me to sit beside him. “Sit with me.” I nodded, and took a seat beside him. The sun was setting; the red and the orange capturing the eyes of me and him. We sat there for another ten minutes, silently watching the sunset. He turned to me, and took my hands.
“I wasn’t sure about this…” He began. “I was afraid that Kikwang would’ve taken you away. I didn’t know this feeling, and it didn’t familiar.” He paused for a long moment, before continuing. “I would wonder at night before I slept, whether we were really meant to be together, and whether I really did have feelings for you or not. I doubted.” He confessed. I looked down, kind of ashamed that I wasn’t the one that confessed to him first. He seemed so new to love; not that I wasn’t, it was just that I never realized how he had felt, and had never considered how he thought of things. “Your cute smile when hearing jokes that me and Kikwang make up; your sparkling eyes when you hear us sing and perform… I remember every single moment of it. “Though you felt special to me, I was never sure whether or not I had feelings for you. It was until you stopped talking to me, and started talking to Kikwang –and even ignoring me when I wanted to talk.”
“I’m sorry.” I apologized. “I didn’t mean to…”
“It’s alright. Maybe Kikwang was always better than me. I can’t compare to Kikwang, he’s the one you actually like.”
“No! Of course not!” I screamed. “The one I like is you.” So there it was, I confessed to my one admiration, and crush. He smiled before gently placing his lips over mine.
“So, will you stay with me now?” He asked with his eyes full of anticipation. I nodded, and smiled.
“I’ll forever stay with you.” I promised.
