At school
Chiaki’s POV---
The school has just finished. I was walking to the gate.
“Chiaki-chan, let’s go shopping!” my classmate asked me.
“Sorry I can’t. I have to work today.”
“Oh okay then. Bye.”
“See you tomorrow.” Then I went to a café where I go to work. I have my part time job here, and I think it’s pretty good since I can have more money. It’s a bit far from my school, so not many of the students come or work there.
Chinen’s POV---
“Yuto-kun, I’ve found an interesting place yesterday!” I said to my tall friend.
“Really? Where?” he said. From his tone I could see that he was not interested at all.
“Aww… come one! You will like it! It’s a bit far from our school though. I found it when I was out with my mom yesterday. There was a simple-and-cozy-looking café. Let’s go there!”
“OMG can’t you feel the coldness?! Today is the coldest winter I’ve ever felt! There’s no way that I will go with you!”
“Aah… you always say it’s the coldest day! Every day! Come on… let’s go… just today and if you don’t like it we won’t go there anymore. Please~”
“Okay, okay! Stop nagging now or I’m not going.”
“Yeah! Yuto-kun you are the best!”
At the café
No one’s POV---
It was really warm inside the café. There were quite a lot of customers today. Chiaki was quite busy taking order from people. Then the doorbell rang, meaning that someone has just entered the café.
“Irasshaimase,” she said. Then she looked at the person who was coming. She was shocked. It was her crush at school, with his best friend, who was the bad boy at school.
“Chiaki-san, could you take the order from them? Everyone is already busy.” Her manager said. She couldn’t reject him, so she nodded her head. But actually she was thinking if she should pass it to the other waiter or just take the order. She thought that she has never talked to them even once, so they must not know her. Then she walked to their table.
“May I have your order?” she said politely.
“I will have cappuccino.” Yuto said.
“Then… I will have… um… hot chocolate.” Chinen said while seeing the menu book. Then she was going to make their order. But Yuto was stopping her.
“Wait! I think I’ve seen you somewhere. Have we met before?” he said. That made Chinen stop paying attention at the menu book and looked at Chiaki. She was getting nervous.
“Ah, umm… maybe you’ve mistaken me with other people.”
“Oh, I know you! You are Kuroda Chiaki-san right? We are from the same school!” Chinen said. It surprised her that he actually knows her. Deep inside, she was happy.
“Oh yeah maybe you’re right.”
“Of course I’m right! Are you working here?” he asked her.
“Of course she is! What do you think she is doing here?!” Yuto said. She chuckled seeing Chinen pouted his face.
“Well then, I will make your order now.” Then she walked to the kitchen.
Chinen’s POV---
“I didn’t know any of our school’s students work here. It’s far!”
“So then why are we coming here?” Yuto said, sounded sarcastic.
“Don’t you like this place? It’s really cozy!”
“Well, I think it’s quite good. The atmosphere in here is good.”
“So do you want to come here again?”
“Well maybe…” I know that he wants to. He never really expresses his feeling. Then our order came.
“Here’s your cappuccino and here’s your hot chocolate.” Chiaki said while placing the cups on the table. I took a sip of my hot chocolate.
“How is it? Is it good?” she asked.
“It’s really good! Did you make it by yourself?” She nodded her head and gave a shy smile. She looks so cute at that time.
“And how do you think?” she asked Yuto.
“Yeah… you’ve got the talent!” and he rose his thumb up. She chuckled at Yuto’s silly action.
“Okay then, enjoy your drinks.” Then she walked away. I think I’m gonna visit this place more often.
No one’s POV---
After that day, Chinen and Yuto often came to the café. Chiaki also talked to them at school. She was getting closer to each of them. She’s realized that Yuto actually is not a bad boy like what everyone says. He is really nice and funny. That’s why Chinen likes to hang out with him.
Even she was able to talk to them, she still didn’t have enough courage to confess to Chinen about your feeling. She was afraid if he doesn’t have the same feeling, and they won’t be friends anymore.
One day, when she was going to work from school, Chinen called her.
“Chiaki-chan!” he said while running toward her.
“What’s up? Where’s Yuto-kun?” she asked.
“Oh he is at his home. He is sick.”
“Oh, okay… And, why did you call me?”
“I’m just thinking if we could go to the café together, since Yuto is not here. You’re working today, right?”
“Yeah, of course we could.” Then both of them walked to the train station. It was an awkward silence. They usually talked a lot. Maybe it was because Yuto was there to break the awkwardness. Suddenly Chinen broke the silence.
“Chiaki-chan, can I ask you a question?”
“You’ve already asked me a question, but yeah. What’s that?”
“Umm… I’m wondering if… Should I ask you this…?”
“What?! I’m so curious now!”
“Okay… Uhm… by any chance, do you like Yuto-kun?” Her eyes widened because of the question. She felt really nervous now. Should she tell him her feeling now?
“No, no, no! I’m just, well you know… We’re friends!” she said, stuttering. She was afraid if he would get her wrong. But Chinen just gave her a smile.
“Oh okay then. I would not ask you that kind of question anymore.” Then the two of them remained silent until they reached the café.
Chinen’s POV---
Chiaki-chan was changing her school uniform to her work uniform, while I was taking a seat at the empty table near the corner. Not long after that, she finished changing. I’ve realized how beautiful she is wearing her work uniform. She looks like those girls from anime.
“Chinen-kun, are you ready to order now?” she said, and I snapped out from my daydreaming.
“Do you remember the first day we met in here?” she nodded her head in response.
“I want to order the same thing as that time.”
“Okay. Just wait a moment. I will make it now.” Then she walked to the kitchen. While she was making the order, I’m preparing myself to tell her about this feeling, that I’ve hide from everyone for a long time.
Chiaki’s POV---
I was wondering if it was only me, or Chinen was really acting weird today. He seems so different. There must be something disturbing his mind. I’ve finished making his order, the hot chocolate. I smiled remembering how we met at the first time. It was a really happy memory for me. How I wished that he has the same feeling to me.
I walked out from the kitchen and approached the table where Chinen was seating. He was out of his mind again. I snapped my fingers in front of his face.
“Chinen-kun! Seriously what’s happened with you…? You seem weird today.” I placed the glass on the table. I decided to seat with him, since the café didn’t have many customers today. Besides, he was sitting far from the kitchen, or the cashier, so my manager would not see me. Well, this table could be called as the blind spot of this café. Then I saw Chinen was drinking the hot chocolate.
“I always remember how it tastes. It’s still as tasty as the first time.” He put the cup on the table. I decided to just listen to him.
“You know, I really like the hot chocolate that you made. It tastes different from other hot chocolate. It tastes so sweet, so warm, just like you.” I pretended to look at the window. I’m sure my face was as red as a crab!
“No, I think you can’t be compared to anything. You are really beautiful.” I looked at him, shocked of what he said before. Could it be…?
“Chiaki-chan, I’ve hide this feeling for a long time, even before we met here for the first time. I love you. Would you be my girlfriend?” he said, while looking directly at my eyes. I was so happy! I didn’t know what to say. My eyes were getting teary.
“Sorry, did I make you sad? It’s okay if you don’t want to…” he said. He looked so embarrassed.
“I don’t know what I should say to express my feeling now. The word ‘happy’ is just not enough. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time. Since the first time I saw you at school, I’ve already had a feeling to you. Chinen, I love you too. I would like to be your girlfriend.” I said while sobbing. He just smiled. It was the best smile I’ve ever seen. Then he sat beside me, and wiped my tears. He placed his right hand on my left cheek, and leaned closer to me, until his lips reached mine. It was a really warm kiss, and I kissed him back. Then he pulled away gently.
“Chiaki-chan, suki da.” He said
“Chinen-kun mo, suki desu.” I replied, and we kissed again.
